We are days away from Yule and the Winter Solstice (on Wednesday, December 21st), and weeks away from Christmas and New Year’s. True to form, life here in the Land of the Lioness has been chugging along.

Since it’s been a few months since my last post, it’s time for some updates to close out 2022.

Firstly, as of last month, I have begun contributing to another digital publication, Time Out Boston! I have been a fan of these sites that delve into the best food & dining, entertainment, shopping and events that each city Time Out covers has to offer, and I am super excited to write for them! Plus, I got to reconnect with Time Out Boston’s fabulous new editor, JQ Louise. The first two articles that I helped update can be found over on my PORTFOLIO page! Take a look!

Secondly, with all the kerfluffle around the current and future states of Twitter, I have joined another social media site, Hive!  A couple of authors I follow on Twitter, J. Dianne Dotson and Gareth L. Powell, sang Hive’s praises, so I thought, what the hell?  No, I have not jumped ship and abandoned Twitter, but since new platforms are being introduced, I thought I’d give it a shot. Unfortunately, Hive is having some performance issues, so I have not posted there in a bit.  Fingers crossed that it is up and running to its full capacity soon, but you can find me there @katykostakisYes, I am still active on my Twitter (@KatyKostakis) and Instagram (@katykostakis) accounts, and there may be another one that will be added to the mix. Stay tuned.

(P.S. If you are a fan of Science Fiction and Fantasy, and you are not already following those two on their socials: Do. It. Now. )

Thirdly, I’ve done a little housekeeping around here as of late. I changed some of the design to make it more streamlined and updated my ABOUT ME and FEROCIOUSLY ASKED QUESTIONS pages. I’m going to try out a few more changes in the coming months, so we’ll see how that goes.  In addition, I am throwing out ideas for new content (anyone want an article on toxic positivity during the job hunt?), and am planning on writing and posting a long overdue Eklektiki Mageia. Watch this space.

While I had lots of roses, there were some thorns.

Finally, while 2022 had bright spots, as I began writing for THREE fabulous publications, I am still not where I want to be career-wise. As I continue to send out applications for a full-time job in journalism, make wonderful connections, and write on the side to supplement my day job outside of the industry, I have to consider my future, so I am pondering my next steps and working on some ideas. Journalism is the field that I trained in and love and I cannot and will not turn my back on it now, despite the cards being stacked against me.  It is my calling. Therefore, if any editors are reading this and are seeking a journalist that has plenty of fire, hunger, and drive, look no further.  I will work hard (and have) to tell wonderful stories that the public needs and wants to know.  All I need is that chance.

With that, I’m beyond ready to close the book on 2022. Hopefully 2023 will be better. I am cautiously optimistic that it will be.  I am truly grateful to all of those who have helped me and gave me advice throughout this journey and for those editors that accepted me and welcomed me into their fold! As always, a big thank you to all of you for your readership and continued support.

Whatever holiday you celebrate this month, may the rest of December be full of joy, peace, love, health, happiness, and as always, endless sunshine.

Until next year!

Katy
